The Red Longicaudatus, congeneric with the Longicaudatus, does not come from America but is an albino version resulting from aquarium breeding. The lively Red Longicaudatus is a brisky swimmers, but as good as digging in the sand as the normal Longicaudatus. When measured including its fork tail, they can measure up to seven centimeters in length. They will reach their maximum size after about five weeks.
The conditions for breeding of the Red Longicaudatus do not differ from those of the typical Longicaudatus. He feels most comfortable at temperatures of 24 to 28 ° Celsius. Its red coloration is directly related to his red blood rather than the shell’s color. The Red Longi is actually a colorless Triops but because Triops possess red blood, they appear red.
The Triops Red Longicaudatus can produce its first Triops-eggs after about two weeks already. Those will be buried in the sand after a while. Concerning the water used for the breeding of Triops Red Longicaudatus, you can use distilled water, as well as creek water or rainwater. In case you are not able to obtain any of the three types of water, it is also possible to simply use tap water and make it adequate for fish by adding a suitable water conditioner.
