The Granarius is considered one of the larger Tadpole Shrimp. It is not uncommon for them to reach eight centimeters. Partly, it is the long tail which makes up much of his size. Those do not only support in stabilizing his body but also allow them to be very good swimmers. The shell of the otherwise brown Granarius exhibits a camouflage-like pattern. Granarius males are slightly darker than the females. You can easily distinguish the two sexes by the fact that only females possess egg sacs.
Triops Granarius feature gonochorism. This means that it does not suffice that the females release the eggs but it is necessary for the males to also fertilise those. Non-fertilized eggs are unable to hatch and therefore not of value. However, the chance of the Granarius Triops-eggs to be fertilized is quite high as Triops Granarius exhibit a 40 percent share of males.
